SYNOPSIS

Act 1:

Gianna Bolt (25), a gifted artist and dancer, hides behind the vibrant colours of her paintings, using them as a shield from the emotional wounds of her past. Though her life appears successful, with a thriving beauty salon and an affinity for dance, Gianna remains lonely and detached, her heart hardened by unresolved grief and the fear of emotional vulnerability. Her interactions, even with close ones, are marked by an icy distance, especially with her ailing mother, Rebecca. When Rebecca suffers a health scare, Gianna is confronted with the looming possibility of losing the last tether to her family.

 

A pivotal moment occurs when Gianna has a chance encounter with Austin Rhythms (37), a homeless man whose own life has spiralled into chaos. Unbeknownst to Gianna, Austin’s life, too, is marked by shattered dreams—failed love, homelessness, and a lost sense of purpose. Meanwhile, Gianna’s life is further complicated by Andile Mtshali, the leader of the dance crew with whom she shares a deep, though unspoken, connection.
